“The Path To Cellular Wellness” Painting Installation: Clinical Lab Expo for Inverness Medical (July 2009)

On July 21 - 23, 2009, Jason created a live art installation at the AACC Clinical Lab Expo trade show at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. Inverness Medical, a major global developer of medical diagnostic products, commissioned Jason to create the installation, titled “The Path To Cellular Wellness”, at their booth. The concept for this piece was to show the progression from disease to health and wellness. On the first canvas there are diseased cells surrounded by stormy waters and a darkened sky, symbolizing a generally unhealthy state. As the cells move to the right, the waters calm and the sky brightens as the viral cells are detected by being "brought into the light" and treated to produce shiny new red blood cells exiting on the right. Organic flowing imagery and floating molecules meander throughout the installation, lending it a sense of movement and continuity.

The installation included five 48” x 24” paintings on canvas with connecting mural work and 3-d objects. Jason got the canvas paintings well underway in his studio prior to the show and then painted LIVE for two days. During the trade show, he added artwork to the walls and canvases, while incorporating real broken machine parts from the company’s laboratory equipment in addition to real tubing.  View slideshow of installation below.
