ABOUT “FUTURA OBSCURA”

The paintings of Brammer’s “Futura Obscura” exhibition merge the timeless imagery of the seascape with a style inspired by the unique metallic coloring of early photographic images from the 1830s called daguerreotypes. Brammer infuses a distinctly nostalgic feel into many of the pieces by incorporating antique or salvaged materials, while he paints others to give the illusion of folding like a Japanese screen, obscuring the line between two-dimensional and three-dimensional perception.
