About the Commission Process:

We are happy to discuss your ideas for a commission or other custom project, such as a mural or site-specific installation. After gathering the necessary information about your request, we will provide a cost estimate free of charge. If you decide to move forward with the commission, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. We want you to be thrilled with your custom artwork. We’ll send photographs of the painting, including full shots, side views and detail shots, to get your approval before it is delivered and considered final. If you are local to Chicago, the painting can be seen in person for final approval.

Information NEEDED TO Provide a Commission Estimate:

When thinking about your commission request, please consider the following items. Not all of these may be relevant or important for your commission idea, so just let us know as much information as you can.

  1. Size requirements, if any. Do you want the commission to be a particular size or fill a particular space? If the commission is for a particular wall or room, please provide the dimensions of the wall or room. Photographs of the space can also be helpful. In some cases, we may request to see the space in person as well.

  2. Are there any particular themes, styles, or imagery that you want incorporated? If so, pictures are always helpful?

  3. Are there other pieces of Jason’s artwork that you really like? If so, what elements in particular appeal to you about those pieces.

  4. Do you want the piece to be a particular shape (e.g. square, rectangular, etc). Do you prefer the piece to be horizontal or vertical? Jason can even carve or cut pieces in irregular shapes using sign board or other material.

  5. Do you want the piece to coordinate with (or complement) the decor or other elements of a particular space? If so, we will either ask for photographs or to set up a visit to the see the space in person.

  6. Do you want a certain type of medium? For example, paintings may be done on stretched canvas, paper, masonite, wood, or other materials. Some clients have requested to have artwork painted on guitars, furniture, or other objects. Do you want a textured or smooth surface? As seen in Jason’s “Time Machines” series, would you like 3-D objects to be incorporated, such as tubing, antique hardware, or other sculptural attachments? Would you like the piece framed?

  7. Do you have any color scheme preferences? If there are particular colors you want to see in the piece or if you want the piece to coordinate well with a certain color scheme, please let us know. If available, color samples or fabric swatches can be helpful.

  8. Budget for the project. If you have a price range in mind, please let us know and we will do our best to come up with a proposal that fits into your budget.

  9. Time Constraints. Do you need your commission completed by a certain date? For example, this may be important if the commission is a birthday or holiday gift for someone. Is there any particular timeframe you need the project completed within? This may be more relevant for a project that requires artwork or installation to be done on-site.

Don’t worry if you’re not sure of the answers to all or some of the above questions. Jason can make suggestions or come up with a unique proposal based on the information you are able to provide. Keep in mind that you can provide as much or as little input into the design as you would like. Some clients have very particular specifications, while other clients just love Jason’s style and give him free reign to create something special for their space.
